Family Baseball League

Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each of them with cane in hand because of their age. The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.
Zechariah 8:4-5

FAMILY BASEBALL LEAGUE
The Game —
We play with plastic balls and bats.  No special equipment (like gloves) is needed.  We pitch hardball-style to skilled players.  We pitch gently to less-experienced players to help them put the ball in play.
Who can play? — Players from the church and the community are welcome, and we get many of both.  Players should be 5 years of age and older (old enough to learn the rules and to enjoy team play).  Players should be able to be at most of their team's games (or otherwise sign up as a substitute player).  Players should be able to play the whole game.  No one sits on the bench.  (Players with physical limitations may play according to their ability.)
When and where are games played? — The season runs mid-May to early August.  Games are played on either Friday evenings (6:30 p.m.) or Sunday afternoons (1:00 p.m.) (usually not both).  Games are played on the large back lawn at the Summit View Church of Christ.

ABOUT THE FAMILY BASEBALL LEAGUE
We play yard-style baseball with plastic balls and bats.  No gloves or other equipment are necessary.  Players range in age from 5 to 65+ years.  All skill levels are welcome.  Everyone plays the entire game, regardless of age or skill level.  Families may choose to play together or on opposing teams.

The FBL began in 2009 as a ministry to encourage intergenerational fellowship in our church.  Since that time, it has grown into an annual event for families and singles in both the church and the community.  Participation is open to everyone.  Signups are held each April; games begin in mid-May and run into August.  We usually play once per weekend, either Friday evening or Sunday afternoon.  New players are welcome to join at the start of the season or as guest players during the season.  (Restrictions apply once the playoffs begin, however.)

Our goal is to honor God through the kind of peaceful, joyful community envisioned by God for his people in Zechariah 8:4-5: "This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each of them with cane in hand because of their age.  The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.'” (NIV)
